Pois é...foi em setembro de 2008, durante uma apresentação sobre os novos produtos da Apple que o Steve Jobs disse: "the funnest iPod ever"! E o pior é que ele está certo, gramaticalmente falando.
Vamos por partes:
Em inglês, formamos o comparativo e o superlativo de adjetivos acrescentando "-er" e "-est".
Exemplos:
1) tall = taller; tallest (My dad is taller than my mom. He's the tallest person in my family.)
2) smart = smarter; smartest (Kids nowadays are smarter than their parents. This is the smartest generation in centuries!)
Às vezes, ocorrem mudanças na grafia:
Exemplos:
1) pretty = prettier; prettiest (Sue is prettier than Jane. Maybe Sue is the prettiest person I know.)
2) thin = thinner; thinnest (This book is thinner than that dictionary.
The thinnest cell phones are the coolest.)
E há os irregulares:
Exemplos:
1) good = better; best (Isn't this cool weather better than that awful heat? Fall is the best season to me.)
2) bad = worse; worst (No, I think it's worse. I mean, the worst time of the year in Brasilia is August...too dry.)
3) far = farther (further); farthest (furthest). (That city is farther north from here. The farthest you can go in that old car is 2 km!)
Para adjetivos com mais de uma sílaba - não terminados em "y" - usa-se "more" e "most".
Exemplos:
1) expensive = more expensive; most expensive (Of course an Audi is more expensive than a Palio. Audis are one of the most expensive cars in the market.)
2) awful = more awful; most awful (The dream I had yesterday was even more awful than the ones I usually have! It was the most awful thing!)
Bem, Steve Jobs disse "funnest". O problema é que "fun" é um substantivo que pode funcionar como um adjetivo. Enquanto substantivo, o 'melhor' seria falar "more fun", do mesmo jeito que falamos "more days", "more houses" e "more money". Mas, enquanto adjetivo, "funnest" segue a regra dos outros adjetivos, então não está 'errado'. Se usamos "a nice day", "a great adventure" e "a fun holiday", então podemos dizer "a nicer day", "the greatest adventure" e "the funnest holiday".
Sou meio suspeita porque amo iPods e toda a parafernalha tecnológica da Apple, mas temos que admitir: Steve Jobs é um gênio. Ele realmente criou "the funnest iPod ever"! E nem matou a gramática!
